Today was the first day of my two week winter break. 

I went to my cat sitting job and was just finishing up. I was outside scooping litter into a blue bucket when someone inside the house started banging on the window, startling me. The elderly father came into the house and was trying not to scare me, despite the fact that I was the only one there with two cats, and he entered the house without me knowing it.

I came back through the house, with an empty cat litter box in one hand and a bucket of cat feces in the other. He held his hand out to shake my hand and upon realizing I had my hands full, pulled out a piece of paper and a pen and asked for my name and phone number.

I told him I needed to throw the stuff out in the garbage, which took several times explaining this before I could get outside. After I returned, and washed my hands, we officially met.

I tried to find out where the trash bags were and his responses were "Oh, I live in Palo Alto", "Yeah...the cats are really active" and "The trash goes out on Tuesday". 

Once I tried to leave, he wrangled me into listening to his phone message which was too garbled for him to understand. The only problem was, he had called someone who kept saying "Hello?....Hello?" while he asked me what the message said. 

I had to take the phone with him to find out who she was, which was a librarian at the Mountain View Library. She had no idea why we were calling her, but he wanted me to find out why the library had been calling him. After finding out his library card number we could only discern that he may or may not have been called about a book on hold...

Once I was in my car and about to leave, he shuffled over to the car and made the 'roll the window down' sign, but my car wasn't started yet. When I went to start the car he shook his head no and made the window sign again, but I could only roll down the window when the car was on.

He then proceeded to tell me that his house he originally bought for $13,000 was now worth well over $1,000,000 and that was that. 

Then I went and did yoga with my dad and came home to wait for our couch guest tonight.

Almost time for my medication...
